Eastern Gulf Coast

Khobar, Jubail and Dammam sit along the Arabian Gulf's calmer western shore. Expect flat sandy beaches, shallow entry points ideal for children, corniche walkways open until midnight, and a good mix of free public areas and paid family parks. Most beaches here are easily accessible by car with dedicated parking.

Red Sea Coast

Jeddah, Yanbu and Umluj offer Saudi Arabia's most visually striking coastline. The Red Sea's warm, clear water supports living coral reefs, making it the go-to destination for snorkeling and diving. You'll find everything here from free public beaches on the Jeddah corniche to secluded resort bays only accessible by boat.

Northern Coast

Duba, Haql and the NEOM zone stretch along Saudi Arabia's northwestern Red Sea coast near the Jordanian border. These beaches are far less crowded than Jeddah, with dramatic rocky backdrops, crystalline shallow bays and some of the kingdom's most untouched natural scenery. Best visited between October and April.

Southern Coast

The Jizan region in Saudi Arabia's southwest has a genuinely different feel — warmer year-round water temperatures, dense mangrove forests along the shoreline, and smooth sandy beaches shaped by the monsoon-influenced currents from the Gulf of Aden. Local fishing culture adds a layer of character you won't find further north.

Farasan Islands

The Farasan archipelago sits in the Red Sea off Jizan and is one of Saudi Arabia's best-kept secrets. Over 80 coral islands with pristine beaches, sea turtles, dugongs and near-zero light pollution. Access is by ferry or private boat from Jizan port. No resorts, no crowds — just raw, protected coastline.

How to Choose the Right Beach in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has more than 2,600 kilometres of coastline split between the Arabian Gulf in the east and the Red Sea in the west. They are genuinely different experiences. The Gulf side — Khobar, Dammam, Jubail — is calmer, warmer, and shallower, which makes it better for families with young children. Water visibility is moderate but the beaches are easy to access and many are free. The Red Sea side — Jeddah, Yanbu, Umluj — is cleaner, more vivid and supports coral reefs, making it better for snorkeling and photography. Currents can be stronger, especially in open areas.

Which beaches in Saudi Arabia are free to enter?

The majority of Saudi Arabia's public beaches are free. Most corniche beaches in Khobar, Dammam and Jeddah charge nothing for entry — you park and walk in. Some beaches inside managed parks or resort areas charge a small entry fee, typically between SAR 10 and SAR 50 per person. Private hotel beaches and exclusive resort stretches are the only ones with significant fees. Our directory tags every beach by entry type so you can filter by free, paid or membership-only before you go.

Are beaches in Saudi Arabia family-friendly?

Most beaches in Saudi Arabia are designed with families in mind. Public beaches typically have separate family sections away from single male areas. Many have changing rooms, outdoor showers, children's play areas and food vendors on-site. Beaches in managed parks like Half Moon Bay and Al Nakheel in Khobar are particularly well-equipped. Women-only beaches exist in some cities — check individual listings for current access rules as policies can change.

What is the best time to visit Saudi beaches?

October through April is the ideal window for most of Saudi Arabia's coastline. Temperatures drop to a comfortable 20–28°C and the water is still warm enough to swim. Summer months (June to September) can see air temperatures exceeding 45°C, making beach visits uncomfortable except in the early morning or after sunset. The Farasan Islands and the northern Red Sea coast around Haql and Duba are best visited in winter when visibility underwater is at its clearest.

Which Saudi city has the most beaches?

Jeddah has the largest number of beach options, particularly along its northern corniche where a string of public and private beaches runs for over 30 kilometres. Khobar comes second on the Gulf side, with a well-developed corniche and easy access to Half Moon Bay — one of the most visited beaches in the Eastern Province. For sheer variety of beach types, the Red Sea coast overall covers more ground.

Can tourists visit Saudi beaches?

Yes. Saudi Arabia opened to international tourists in 2019 and all public beaches listed in this directory are accessible to visitors. There are no beach-specific restrictions for tourists beyond standard public behaviour guidelines that apply to residents as well. Most beaches have signage in both Arabic and English. Tourist visas are available on arrival or online through the official Saudi tourism portal.
